Simple Pleasures

My husband started his new job yesterday. He came home beaming, excited and full of chatter, which is fine with me, I like a happy partner. While he was away I did a major clutter cleaning. There is something so refreshing about cleaning house to start a new adventure.

Today though, after a few more chores, I took a break to enjoy some of my favorite pleasures – open windows, baking fresh bread, eating avocados, huge "glasses" of water* and being with my little girl.

*Anyone know where to get an actual glass the is huge for my water? I'm trying to avoid the plastic ones but I adore water and pint glasses are simply too small...hence jars! Just one though.

Lunch was a sensuous and super filling salad, my very favorite one in fact (very similar to this one but not quite). One avocado diced, one raw ear of corn striped, a handful of fresh picked sungold tomatoes cut in halves - all into a bowl, a squeeze of half a lemon, some salt, some pepper, and drizzle of balsamic cream. Perfection.

But dessert? Well that was the kicker. Fresh blueberries, a splash of cream and a touch of cranberry honey from the farm we visited not long ago. My daughter declared it "wonderful" and stole my remaining berries but I was happy to share, her delight was filling enough.

Then, just when I thought I was pretty well blissed out, I got the mail.

And so, despite my best intentions to write something different I am sucumbing to gluttony and using my very short quiet time (oh naps, what will I do when you end!?!) to flip a few pages and take a few breaths. Sometimes I forget to put breathing on the top of my to-do list and sometimes it comes to me anyway...

Glad to hear hubby has found work! Sounds like it makes him happy too so bonus :)
I use a huge mug for my water. No idea how much it fits but I only need to fill it twice a day. Plus, it's really pretty!

congratulation on new job!
for water i reuse a blue bottle that once carried spring water. it's a pain to fill up form my fridge door dispenser, but the good part is that they say (and i affirm) that blue (cobalt) glass is somehow keeps water fresh longer.

This post makes me smile! So happy to hear positive things are happening in your home and family. We are strict jar drinkers in this house. And although I haven't found a replacement yet that John will actually use, I have found that I love a large working glass like these: The cool thing about them is you can get lids for them too. I banished all our drinking glasses and switched to a selection of regular and large working glasses. They are quite handy and attractive.
However, if new working glasses aren't in your aunt just bought Johnny the most horrendously HUGE glass beer mug from the Dollar Store based on his water jar obsession. I think it looks like a 1/2 gallon, but I'm sure it's not. Of course he doesn't use it. ;o)

Totally feel ya on the avocados. There's something so indulgent about them. Cool and creamy and just...yum :)

Sounds like a lovely day.

That salad looks amazing! I can't wait to make it once I get home next week :) Also, I was at Devin Caughey's wedding this past weekend and all of the water, tea and lemonade was served in mason jars. So lovely!

Funny kizzmt should mention mason jars at a wedding. We used mason jars with colored raffia tied around then as our toasting glasses. I'd actually forgotten about that until I read your comment. It was lovely.

They sell larger mason jars. I store my iced coffee in them, they are a great size. And oh my that avocado salad is right up my ally, I often stare off in a daze just digging into the flesh of a lightly salted avocado.

I'm all about the simple pleasures! (I think water in a jar looks deliciously beautiful by the way.) Congrats to your Mister on the new job:)
